 35 years ago, a fresh-looking lad from the colonies of Mumbai was being hailed as the next big thing. Would he play for India, the cognoscenti asked themselves.



Sachin was just 16 when he debuted against the arch-rivals Pakistan. Pakistan has great fast bowlers - Imran Khan, Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis. He scored 15 runs but showed his class by hitting 2 boundaries in his short stay at the crease. 

In an exhibition match in Peshawar, he scored 53 off just 18 deliveries,  including an over in which he scored 27 runs bowled by leg-spinner Abdul Qadir. It was just the beginning and the rest was a history to be remembered & cherished by all cricket lovers around the globe.

 He was the most complete batter of his time, the most prolific run-maker of all time, and arguably the biggest cricket icon the game has ever known.

Sachin Tendulkar's greatness and his career longevity made him embrace some of the greatest compliments and come face-to-face with the harshest of criticism. His greatest one is from none other than Sir Don Bradman. He said "He was playing like  I used to play".-to his wife.





1992 Cricket World Cup: World Saw Sachin's Talent


Tendulkar scored 283 runs in the ICC Cricket World Cup 1992 at an average of just over 47 and was man of the match in India’s only two victories – over Pakistan by 43 runs and Zimbabwe by 55 runs. He scored 18,426  ODI runs in his 463 matches with 49 centuries.

He is amongst the Fab 4 of his era. He played in 6 World Cups along with 2 finals(2003,2011). India's 2011 victory was a tribute to him. 


It was the most memorable image that was imprinted on 1.3 billion Indians who loved him.

His best innings as described was against Pakistan in the 2003, world cup. He was the player of the series.


Sachin Test Cricket At A  Glance :

He scored more than  18,000 runs in the most extended format of the game and showed his class. His best innings came in Sydney(Australia) when he scored 241 against the best bowling attack of that time. When Sachin Tendulkar hit 241 in Sydney and refused to play a favorite shot. Steve Waugh described it as the best innings he witnessed ever in his career.



He scored 51 centuries in his illustrative long career, facing the best fast bowlers like- Mcgrath, Brett Lee, Wasim Akram, Allan Donald, and many more.

He has been Man of the Match 13 times in Test matches and Man of the Series four times, including twice in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia. The performances earned him respect from Australian cricket fans and players.  In ODI, he has been Man of the Match 62 times and Man of the Series 15 times.

He played his last match against Pakistan in 2013. He is now with Mumbai Indians, guiding the young talents of India.
